The workflow, rethought.

The starting point

The problem

Product labels were printed manually after weighing. Staff matched finished goods with dispatch orders, creating risks of wrong labels, incorrect loading, inventory mismatch and shipment errors.

The connected workflow

The solution

An automated production and dispatch workflow connecting the weighing scale, label printer, barcode scanner and inventory system.

What the system handles.

  1. 01

Product completed → weight captured automatically

The weighing scale sends each reading to the system the moment a product is placed on it.

  2. 02

Correct label generated → barcode assigned

The label is printed with the right product data and a unique barcode, with no manual selection.

  3. 03

    Inventory updated

Finished-goods stock is updated in real time as items are labelled.

  4. 04

    Item scanned before loading

Every item is scanned at the dispatch point before it goes onto the vehicle.

  5. 05

Item verified against the sales / dispatch order

The scan is checked against the order; mismatches stop loading and alert the supervisor.

WHY IT WORKED

Why it worked.

  1. Verification at the source

Checks happened on the floor and at the dock, where errors could still be prevented.

  2. Hardware and software together

Scale, printer, scanner and inventory were designed as one workflow, not four tools.

  3. Operator-friendly

Clear feedback at each station meant staff adopted it without extra training.

The result.

Reduced manual label errors, prevented incorrect loading, improved inventory accuracy and created complete traceability from production to dispatch.
